Field notesPACKAGING REQUIREMENTS CHECKLIST

Prepare a useful packaging sourcing brief.

Prepared by PackagingEquip · Suggest a correction

A useful inquiry tells the manufacturer what the machine must handle, how the package should look, and how the line will operate. Record confirmed requirements and separate them from questions.

Start with the product.

Describe whether you are packing liquids, pastes, powders, granules, individual items or already-packed goods. Explain relevant handling considerations, such as fragility, consistency and cleaning requirements. Where a property is unknown, ask the manufacturer what sample or test information is needed rather than assuming a value.

Define the package.

Identify the intended bottle, pouch, carton or film format. Include package dimensions, materials and closure style when known. A package drawing or sample can be useful during a later technical review. Record whether the machine must handle more than one size and how frequently formats are expected to change.

Describe the operating target.

State your required output in a clearly named unit. A machine's stated maximum speed is not a promise for every product and package combination. Ask for confirmation against your exact requirements, including any upstream and downstream constraints.

Plan integration and confirmation.

Describe available floor space, the surrounding equipment and destination requirements. Ask the manufacturer to clarify utilities, installation responsibilities, operator training, spare parts and the scope of acceptance testing. Commercial terms, delivery and any claimed certificates must be confirmed with the supplier.

Keep an open-question list.

A complete brief does not require invented specifications. Make unknowns explicit so they can be resolved in the technical conversation. Keep any revised requirements together with the manufacturer's response.
